Privacy Policy
Last updated October 2, 2026
This policy explains what information EasySem collects when you use Semester at easysem.ca, why, and what you can do about it. The short version: we collect what's needed to run the app, we don't sell it, and we don't show ads.
What we collect
- Account details: your username, your password (stored only as a secure one-way hash), and a profile photo if you add one.
- What you put in the app: semesters, courses, assignments, grades, calendar events, notes, uploaded syllabi, and your conversations with the assistant.
- Billing details: when you subscribe, Stripe collects your name, email address, card and billing address. We receive your subscription status and a Stripe customer ID — never your full card number.
- Technical data: our hosting provider keeps standard server logs, such as IP addresses and request times, to keep the service secure and working.
How we use it
- To run Semester and show you your own information.
- To process your subscription and payments.
- To provide the AI features you choose to use.
- To keep the service secure, fix problems and answer support requests.
We don't sell your information, use it for advertising, or share it except as described here.
Services we rely on
These companies process data on our behalf, only to provide their part of the service:
- Stripe — payments and billing.
- OpenAI — when you import a syllabus or use the assistant, the syllabus text, your question, and the course details needed to answer it are sent to OpenAI for processing. OpenAI doesn't use data sent through its API to train its models.
- Vercel — hosts the website and app.
- Neon — hosts the database where your information is stored.
These providers store data in the United States, so your information may be processed outside Canada and be subject to the laws there.
Cookies and local storage
We use one cookie to keep you signed in, and your browser's storage to remember preferences like light or dark mode. We don't use advertising or tracking cookies. Stripe sets its own cookies on its checkout page to prevent fraud.
How long we keep it
We keep your information while you have an account. If you cancel your subscription, your data stays so you can come back to it. If you ask us to delete your account, we'll erase your information within 30 days, except billing records that the law requires us to keep.
Your choices and rights
Under Canadian privacy law (PIPEDA), you can ask to see the personal information we hold about you, correct it, or have it deleted. Email mjacpbscfw@gmail.com and we'll respond within 30 days. You can also change your password and photo in Settings at any time.
Security
Your connection to Semester is encrypted, passwords are hashed, and access to your data is limited to your own account. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect your information and will tell you if a breach affects it.
Young users
Semester is for students aged 13 and up. Users under 18 need a parent or guardian's permission. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, email us and we'll delete it.
Changes
If we change this policy in a meaningful way, we'll let you know in the app before the change takes effect.
